Injection Moulding TOOLING
When using the word ‘Tool’ in injection moulding production we are referring to the actual moulds used by the Injection Moulding Machines.
The tool is usually constructed from hardened steel, pre-hardened steel, aluminium, and/or beryllium-copper alloy. The use of these metals allows the molten plastic to be forced into every crevice and cavity, before solidifying and producing a precise and intricate end product.
Plastics 2000 currently works with a tried and tested local tooling options as well as tooling providers in Europe and the Far East. We have been impressed at the quality of their product and their openness in allowing our staff to inspect their production line, when we have placed an order with them.
The choice of material to build a mould from is primarily one of economics; in general, steel moulds cost more to construct, but their longer lifespan will offset the higher initial cost over a higher number of parts made before wearing out. Pre-hardened steel moulds are less wear-resistant and are used for lower volume requirements or larger components.
As we have mentioned previously, Plastics 2000 regularly contact other Toolmakers for costs and quality assurance, even visiting their factories, to ensure customer satisfaction – if Plastics 2000 can make savings then we can pass them onto you, our customer.
